I've had the weirdest service both times I've been at Santa Fe Bar and Grill. The first time the food was slow to arrive, not warm, and the waiter picked a nasty fight with my date. It really wasn't our fault the food was cold and not good and yet he thew a fit. The second time, and only because my next date wanted to get a drink before seeing a movie, the service was a bit warmer and we just had drinks at the bar but it was nearly impossible to get the bartenders attention. Drinks were good, and the bar food was solid. But with the nearly impossible parking in De Vargas mall and the up and down service, this is probably a "won't return".

We love this place!! The Peppercorn Steak salad is yummy! We ordered it to go another time and ate it on the deck of our condo. We keep coming back because the food is so good and the ambience is wonderful. Who would think you were in a shopping center! Thanks Santa Fe Bar and Grill!

We were visiting Santa Fe for the first time and looking for a reasonably-priced restaurant with good food. After being disappointed with other restaurants, we discovered this one. Their food is so good that we have come back every day! The lemon chicken is amazing; loved the sauce that came with it. My husband says the steak salad is the best he has ever had. The salmon was great. Santa Fe Bar and Grill puts the rest of the restaurants we went to to shame. It is also very reasonable.

Always a must when in Santa Fe. The employees are always very polite and the food is always consistently great!

Santa Fe Grille has good space inside and out. The waitstaff knows their stuff and are quite helpful with the menu and special items. The food is hearty and well served. They serve a very good vege burger with nice, ripe Vocadas well as juicy beef burgers for the carnivore set. Cobb salads and Caesar salads are plentiful and fresh. The pasta specials are always terrific and vary by season. The various fish dishes have never disappointed. The large jalapeño stuffed peppers are delicious and HOT, so watch out. Clean restrooms with handicap access are a available. There is a full bar that seats 15 and sports 2 TVs for those inclined to watch sporting events while chomping on a steak and downing a beer. Desserts are great, so save room. The housemade adobe mud pie is stellar, as are the cheesecakes (made New York style). The chocolate espresso brownie is a favorite. You can even choose to have a hot fudge or cajeta-piñon sundae. The decor is Southwestern and attractively presented with shades of the Santa Fe sunset. Seating is comfortable, offering a choice of tables, booths or banquettes. There is a small dining area off the main room used for private parties. Give it a try, but remember that they get very busy around dinner time and you may have a bit of a wait.

In LoVe! Ate lunch last Wednesday - friend and I shared the fried oyster app - the coating was tasty, the oysters were perfectly cooked and the dipping sauce a great compliment. My hat is off to the chef! For my entree I had the smoked brisket enchiladas, and the meat must have been smoked with applewood, because it was sweet and smoky at the same time - Really impressed with the quality of the food, the prices and the service. Would continue to eat here when in the City Different.

Started with a cup of the soup of the day "fire roasted tomato with basil topping" delish. Followed up with the blue corn vegetable enchiladas and it comes with Mexican rice, black beans. Got mine topped my enchiladas with both red and green sauce. Wonderful combination of flavors with a good level of spicy. Also had the salmon with jalapeño aioli; perfectly cook salmon with roasted potato and vegi, wonderful southwester version of a grilled salmon classic. Service was fast and well organized.

I only had about 10 minutes. My very friendly server Kaylie was awesome. She got my beer and soup so quick it was amazing. The tortilla soup was hot with a touch of spice and very fresh. But it was the server who made my experience. I will be back!

Always great food drinks and fun at the bar! Levi and Noah always smiling and happy and I look forward to seeing them when I go in, which is quite often ! The bar crowd is regulars and I've met a lot of nice people there!

Fish and chips were good, could have eaten 3 but it only came with 2. And the beef tacos are a bit tough, but the rice was good.

I see some four and five star reviews for this place on here, and it bewilders me. Have these people ever eaten food before? Are they on vacation from the sewer? I signed up for yelp specifically to give this restaurant a one-star review. I swear to god, I've had better meals at the soup kitchen. The theme of the afternoon was disappointment. We looked over the menu with excitement. Every entree looked delicious and the prices were reasonable. We ended up with an order of coconut shrimp, the meat loaf and the chicken fried steak. With some mimosas to wash it down. We were blissfully unaware of the culinary abortion that awaited us. The waitress brought out our drinks. They were a bottle of champagne with a glass of orange juice, we had to make them ourselves. At the time we thought it was cute. After some idle banter our food was brought out. A wave of nausea and fear washed over me when I saw the plates. Immediately I was brought back to Thursday in my grade school cafeteria. The meat loaf was a grayish slab with a sick layer of filmy gravy dumped on it. Lukewarm would be a generous description. I looked over at Kevin. He was staring into a brownish wad that we could only guess was a chicken fried steak. It looked like the insides of a dirty diaper. We set ourselves to the grim task of choking down this abomination. Every bite was more painful than the one before. It was a cold flavorless heap of shit. Bad doesn't begin to describe this food. There was no texture, no flavor. It tasted like it was cooked by a bitter alcoholic whose wife had just ran out on him. It was so bad I wanted to walk into the kitchen and shank whatever poor bastard threw it in the microwave, just so I could go to prison and get a decent meal. At this point the mimosa situation just seemed sad. The waitress was nice though.

This place is great ! We are regular customers - maybe once every 10 days or so and we love the consistently great service (Eric the magnificent) and most of all the food is always very good. Salad with steak / salad with shrimp - very yummy - also love the daily specials - fried fish on Friday is nice ! Thanks SFBG and please don't change a thing !

The menu is great the service was NOT! The place was not busy at 8:30pm yet our server was inattentive and seemed to be more interested in her snack at the bar. One of the entree's was good the other was not made to order... we had to send it back... I was finished with my entree before the returned entree arrived back at the table. Food is ok for Santa Fe... nothing to write home about. Service is BAD or worse...

Food is good but the service was lacking in more ways than I can recount in this small space.

I really want to like this place... the patio/ front door looks extremely welcoming. Beautiful lights hanging over the patio. Inside the restaurant is a little cheesy in places- and the bathrooms are very strange/ somewhat dirty. The menu is limited although had some options that seemed appealing. I have tried this place several times now and have been unimpressed each time. The food is definitely edible, but not much more. Really not worth spending your money here. Definitely would not recommend bringing out of town guests here... there are by far better places to show off Santa Fe's culinary style.

A local tipped me off to this place, which I would've otherwise missed in its nondescript strip mall location. The chicken enchiladas were fantastic, and I particularly enjoyed the beans that accompanied the dish. Incredibly flavorful at a reasonable price. Way better than some of the more popularly touted places in the central downtown area. Thanks for the great meal!

Nice place but the food isn't great. Rice was still hard, and the green beans were too. When the waitress was told this she just apologized and that was all. Usually, restaurant personnel will fawn all over you to try and make it up to you when the food wasn't prepared right but not this girl. The fettuccini al salmon was okay but the marinara sauce and kalamata olives were too strong to allow the salmon flavor to come through. Somehow the Prawns Mazatlan tasted Italian rather than Mexican. Never been to Mazatlan so maybe the food there isn't what I thought. Anyway, sorry to say I would it recommend this place to eat.

Couldn't choose a place to eat, and have driven by this spot for ages. Very deceiving as you don't appreciate the size and presentation of the restaurant till you go in. Glad we did. Had a late lunch, 2ish, and were shocked at how busy the place was at that time. No wonder, food was great, and a very nice and diverse menu, very easy to find something. Big rotisserie chicken at reasonable price, fresh soups and home made dressings made it a surprise stop. Very friendly server, very attentive, and it really felt like a pleasant change to be there.

Had a great dinner with my friend! Our server Kayleigh was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The ribs were very good but the bottom pile had less sauce and was not as tender as the top. I think it's just how ribs work though (the bigger ones aren't as good as the smaller ones to me). I wasn't a big fan of the margarita (Silver Coin) because of the amount of salt and lack of balance (Silver tequila is fragile compared to lime juice so it's pretty limey. I should have gotten gold). They have good beer on tap at a decent price for Santa Fe. The bar and restaurant was pretty busy even for a rainy Thursday. The decor is very nice as well, it was more than I expected for a bar & grille type restaurant.

Long islands very tasty. Not tart or sweet. Not too weak. Chips & salsa with queso. Good mild+ temp on both the salsa and queso. The salsa was kind of chunky (we prefer less chunks but that's just us). Queso was very tasty. Brisket enchiladas had very good flavor. Mild hotness to rice, a little more than expected. Green sauce was OK, Prefer red but again that's just us. Service was good. All in all quite good. Not extraordinary so I'd give 4.5 stars if I could.

Yuck! After searching for a place to eat last night, a friend and I finally stopped here since the plaza was extremely crowded and we were tired and hungry. I ordered the rotisserie chicken but, substituted mashed potatoes instead of french fries. Huge mistake! The mashed potatoes were obviously instant and not cooked properly. They tasted like a huge pile of gross mush! The seasonal vegetable was broccoli. The broccoli was tough and undercooked. At least on a bright note, the chicken was well cooked and tasty. Thank goodness one thing was good on my plate or I would have starved! The waitress was extremely slow and not very quick about providing service. I had to ask for my soda to be refilled since it got pretty watered down with all the waiting. The waitress only added more soda and no ice (even though the ice was melted down). She did not bother to stop and ask if we needed anything the entire time! Don't waste your time or money. There are better places in town!

I've been here a few times over the years, only when forced to by friends. Each time the food was mediocre at best, but last night they hit a new low. Appallingly bad. How anyone could think this place is even passable, let alone "the best combination of food, quality, price, and ambiance in Santa Fe," is a complete mystery to me. Bland, tasteless fare produced by an incompetent kitchen. On the plus side, the service was friendly and attentive, and the patio in front is a pleasant spot (though there was an unpleasant fishy odor emanating from a neighboring table). Please, go anywhere else. You're in Santa Fe, a town blessed with many excellent restaurants. Hell, I'd rather go to Sonic.

  • Liz J.

The food was pretty good. The service however was less than desired for sure. Our waiter was so quiet and instead of checking on tables walked around looking quite board. The friendliest staff member was the host at the front door. I would have picked another restaurant in hindsight.

Probably the best combination of food quality, price, and ambiance in Santa Fe, and with convenient free parking. I eat here several times a month, and I always see savvy locals enjoying meals here, too. This visit, though, I made a rare special request of the kitchen, and it was granted immediately. I was grateful and impressed. There's always a nice special or two, and everything on the menu is first-rate and made with fresh ingredients. One of the best burgers in Santa Fe. Also, a great selection of draft beers. Highly recommended.

Had dinner one Saturday evening with family from ABQ. Good food (my dad's pork chops were great), good drinks. Great service and the place really filled by the time we were heading out. The burgers looked outstanding. We'll be back.

Don't let the strip mall location fool you the Santa Fe Bar & Grill is great. I loved the interior with it's clean, southwest style. It was classy and comfortable. The chicken enchiladas were delicious and the margaritas were good too. I had some apple pie for dessert and it was ok, but nothing to write home about. Our waitress was friendly and prompt.

Both visits were wonderful because our waitstaff rocked. Steak tacos are great, but shrimp tacos nit so tasty. Chile rellanos are very good.

On a vacation we stumbled on this place by coincidence. It was truly a great dining experience. They have the best tortilla soup I've ever had. It was so fresh and so tasty. Their lemon chicken was to die for. My mouth is watering as I write this. If I could only eat here again. Should I ever find myself in Santa Fe again then this is the first place I will come to and the last when I leave.

We ended up here after trying to go to three different restaurants in Santa Fe on a stop-through night going to the Grand Canyon. (This is a city that has an issue with parking!). After getting a parking spot in the lot, the restaurant was very busy and loud on this Friday night but we were seated immediately. The servers were courteous if restrained and the decor was nice. It's busy and loud but we were fed in good time. I had the steak tacos and they were pretty good. The guac was awesome and just barely enough. I borrowed some of hubby's sour cream and it would have been nice to have some salsa. But they don't give you chips and salsa. Could have really used some chips for my beans and rice!! Hubby had the red sauce enchiladas and his plate was not large but enough. We enjoyed the food and the kids were happy enough with their usual chicken tenders and cheeseburgers and fries. I wouldn't call this a memorable experience, but we were happily fed. I'm surprised by the amount you get for your money, though. Usually we would at least get some leftovers for that kind of money!

I really want to give the place one star. but i reserve those for places that make me physically ill. This place did not make me ill. just a little well... upset. in the stomach. I knew we were in trouble when 6 minutes after ordering our meals came out. If there is one thing i know, it's how long it takes to microwave a meatloaf. and it's about 6 minutes. Stouffers takes about that long, and it doesn't take the better chunk of a $20 to have it. This place suffers the same problem as most santa fe establishments these days. Sysco. It really is too bad Diego's is gone.

My favorite place to eat in Santa Fe! Great food and terrific wine selection. The pork tenderloin is fabulous!

  • Rennie C.

Yep, I agree with the other poster. This is like a Santa Fe-style Chili's. Maybe the ingredients are fresh, but you just don't get the impression that they care that much. The clientele seems like they just saw the place and stopped in because they didn't know where else to go. Very standard fare, service so-so----as if they're really doing you a favor by waiting on you----and so many other choices in Santa Fe at this price point. If I were to go again, I'd sit at the bar and order. At least I'd get some attention from the server and have a nice drink in front of me.

Had a long drive today so did not want to go to far from our accommodation. This was just the ticket, food was well presented and tasty, thought it a little pricey. Still it was enjoyable. Would I go back? probably for lunch perhaps!

Pity, this will forever be known by me as "that place where that lady was flossing her teeth at the bar". I stopped in here last Saturday after a long snowshoeing trek, I was verrrrry hungry and thirsty. They have a cute outdoor seating area that looks very nice for cocktails during a summer evening. One Star: Sat at bar- Service was very good, the bartender was friendly and responsive (Ian) . Margarita- yeck- I think they made it with Rose's Lime, it really was weird-sour and not in a good way. Also they were chintzy on the tequila. It just tasted watery. Go ahead, charge me $10, but make me a real drink, I just hiked 6 miles with 1000' elevation gain! One star: Chips- fresh and salty- yum Guac- looked and tasted like that prepared stuff you get in the Sysco bags, with fresh avocado mixed into it. Caesar- this was the highlight of the lunch, it was not overdressed or overdone. It came with a nice mini roll that was warm and fresh, and butter that was soft enough that it didn't fly off the plate when I cut into it. Shrimpies on top were sparse (4 or 5) and overcooked- argh, nothing worse than rubbery shrimp that you paid extra for... Total bill $36.15, with tip, $44.15. For one person. Who wasn't eating sushi or truffles. And had one drink. BUT, the Coup de Grace on this experience was the woman sitting four chairs down from me, eating with what appeared to be her daughter. She had one of those flossing tools and she was going at her teeth during her conversation with her daughter and the bartender. I thought she must have something painful that couldn't wait until she got to the restroom but no, she really just had no shame flicking masticated food out of her mouth while the rest of the restaurant was eating their meals. She had it in her hand or mouth the entire hour I was there. GAG, I'm afraid it's going to be hard to recover from that one.

BFF and I have dropped by for late lunches several times and have never been disappointed. Our latest visit was New Year's Day with friends from out of town and the food and service was impeccable. Our out of town guest inquired about ordering from the dinner menu and was accommodated with a smile, professionalism, and a delicious Sea Bass meal. From the soups, salads, burger, chicken, and pulled pork, everything was excellent!

Everything about this place screams "Meh". I had shrimp tacos, which were basically just tortillas, shrimp, and overly sweet cabbage. They were fine, I guess, but nothing I couldn't throw together in a few minutes at home. Side dishes...purple cabbage/raisin coleslaw was too sweet, but improved when salted. Black beans were good. My wife had the "chop steak sandwich", which is a fancy name for "plain hamburger". She said it tasted like McDonald's. I actually think McD's are more flavorful than this. The food made us both feel extremely full and heavy, even though we hadn't eaten all that much. Not sure why. Service was indifferent, neither friendly nor hostile. We had to wait a long time (about 30 minutes) for our food, which would have been ok if the dishes hadn't been so simple and bland. On the bright side, the prices are reasonable and the place is big enough that it was easy to get a table even though it was pretty crowded. Not enough reason for us to go back, though.

Not that good, but not that bad. I got the steak sandwich, which had peppers, pesto, cheese all on sourdough bread. The steak was great, the peppers juicy and tasty, the pesto could have been left off. I thought the flavor was a bit much and took away from the other ingredients. And the bread was a soggy as a sock after splashing in puddles. I ended up taking the bread off and eating the interior separately as a delightful blend. Staff was nice enough though our waitress would pop out of thin air like a ninja and surprise us each time. She is sneaky so dont try to steal the silverware. She will most likely be hiding under your table or hanging on the roof watching you. Overall, decent.

I've been eating there since they opened several years ago. The food is excellent. Their seafood tacos are to die for really. Service is courteous and friendly. I bring business clients there all the time because they do a nice job and the food is good and it's not too loud.

So this place is kind of like Chili's but with a Santa Fe twist. The food is filling and kind of good tasting, but certainly nothing spectacular. I had the tortilla soup and southwest caesar salad, and the flavors were just not there. It was all kind of bland. In fact, the croutons, which were supposedly spiced, were completely inedible because of taste and texture. I hoped to steal some of my fiance's rotisserie chicken, but it was also pretty unseasoned and bad tasting. The sides were similarly disappointing- normal fries and completely overcooked and unseasoned broccoli. We had ordered the salsa/guac/chips appetizer, and the guac was eaten but not the salsa. It was basically a bowl of cilantro with some canned tomatoes thrown in for kicks. Because I was so hungry after this meal, we decided to get some apple pie (they also offered some Mexican-style desserts, but I didn't want to have flan ruined for me forever), which was similarly flavorless and the ice cream had a cheap taste (like it wasn't made with real cream). The decor was nice, and the server was fine if a bit pushy. We only went here because it was the only non-chain we could find open on New Year's Day before noon. On the bright side, it wasn't very expensive (~$9/plate). I guess that's something?

I'm racking my brain for something positive to say about this place. The food is frozen at best but I do suppose they have a nice outdoor patio. Just for the love of gawd, don't order the fish and chips. It's like a big plate of fried batter (and by big plate I mean these huge, baby tumor looking things) that posses no fish whatsoever but smell like hot tuna. Corona on the patio is your best best.

I love this place for lunch. Reasonably priced, good quality, fresh flavors. I had the barbecue chicken. Tangy, a little sweet and delicious. Go for it. You will not be disappointed.

  • Dawn M.

I enjoyed my first experience of green and red chile here. My friend an I were on a vegetarian day of our flexitarian diet, so we opted to share the veggie quesadillas and a veggie enchilada. We had the enchilada smothered in both red and green chile because, when offered a choice, I always choose both. Why not have it all? I was warned by friends that the chile sauce would "mess my stomach up", but I quite enjoyed both and felt no odd after effects. Both were filled with vegetables and had an enjoyable flavor. The food was tasty, if a little mushy. I enjoyed it, but it was sadly not a favorite spot on my trip to Santa Fe.

Best tortilla soup! Noah and Julian are the best bartenders!!!

  • Dale P.

Thank goodness the flossing lady was not near us today at lunch. We got to sit in the patio with perfect weather. My wife had the shrimp tacos while I had the vegetarian enchilada. My wife said she enjoyed the tacos even if the shrimp was previously frozen (one of the complaint by another reviewer). I'd guess there must be some really great restaurants in Santa Fe because of the harsh reviews here, their standards must be much higher than us Oregon folks. We enjoyed every part of the meal and had great service. Yes we would return here but there are so many places to try in Santa Fe, I doubt we will before leaving.

I get take out from this restaurant a couple times a year and it's not half bad. I don't see the need to ruin a Cobb Salad (one of my favorite salads) by adding himica, peppers, mexican cheese, and radishes, but when it comes to a cobb salad, us purists will always have the overview in mind. Just make sure you delete the added ingredients from the salad, even if it confuses the order person, and it will.SFB&G has fairly decent entrees, and EXCELLENT appetite offerings (the fried oyster appetitizer is awesome and well loved by a couple blind people I know). The southwest cuisine is above par, and the prices are decent. I love the patio when I have time to sit there and watch the people because you are looking at all sorts of customers who are reasonably wealthy mix with a lot of the downtown worker bee scenesters. Definately not a 5-Star, but a little above a 3-star in my book.

Don't let the strip mall location fool you. Nice place to eat, decent food, very friendly staff ( Josh L is great). Downside, tables are too close together. You can hear more than you want too from the table next door. If you can get an outside table you are better off. their scotch selection sucks but if you like to-kill-a they have a great variety. We'll go back and try it at lunch time.

Consistently good, fresh food at reasonable prices. One of Santa Fe's better values.

Just ok. So many better options. Just so average, run of the mill. If you sit on the patio, try to sit towards the west. The garbage dumpster stunk. Patio was dirty.

We eat at this restaurant frequently. We have found it to be consistently good food, good service and clean. Love their home-made dressings and lunch and dinner specials. Also love their salads and soups. Great food for a reasonable price for Santa Fe. Also close to a movie theater, Starbucks, Sunflower Market, Albertsons. Great location, close to the Plaza.

Nice place, salmon salad was excellent. Service good. Wife had the soup, which she liked. No complaints, no errors. We would go back!

  • David D.

Well, it's in devargas mall, so it can't be that great - but it is cut off from the mall. Inside it is pretty classy, and the patio is exceptionally nice. But the food really isn't anything special, especially considering it's surroundings of Santa Fe. While it's not that expensive either, it truly isnt out of the ordinary. It's counter part - san francisco street bar and grill is better, with better food, and a much better plaza location.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
